A

-creates laws and administers them(involves passing laws through parliament)
-law enforcement through police
-courts- prosecution and defence in determining the outcome of criminal cases

What is law creation?

A

-parliament passes legislation
-judges creates laws by setting judicial precedents that other courts must follow, and by interpreting the meaning of statues.
-this system is administered by the minister of justice and home office.

A

Multi agencies Public Protection Arrangements - Assesses and manages the risk around sexual and violent offenders consists of police probation and prison services

Relationship between the police and probation?

A

-Conduct joint visits on individuals under MAPPA eg sex offenders to manage risk.
- also arrest individuals who breach license conditions on behalf of probation.
-probation will contact the police to arrest somebody who have breached their license conditions.

A

-police will arrest prisoners who have breached license conditions.

A

-if an individual is deemed too dangerous the police will remand them in custody until their next court date.
-police may attend court to validate evidence as prosecution witness for example
-the police will also attend court to potentially protect vulnerable witnesses.

Relationship between the CPS and the police

A

-police gather evidence and submit it to the cps. The cps will then advise the police whether the suspect will be charged or not then the police will advise the suspect or the decision the CPS have made.

A

Cps prepares and presents prosecution case against defendants; prepares appeals against unduly lenient sentencing.

The courts has a relationship with prison by holding prisoners attending court. Pending their transfer/ return to prison arranging video recordings and live links for prisoners giving evidence from prison.
