Absorption of Materials Flashcards
What are the lungs?
The organs of gas exchange.
What are the parts of the lungs?
Trachea
Cartilage rings
Bronchi
Bronchioles
What are the Alveoli?
At the end of every tiny bronchiole there are microscopic alveolus. Each alveolus has a network of capillaries.
Facts about Alveoli?
They have large surface area
They have a film of moisture
GAS EXCHANGE SUMMARY
Blood low in oxygen and high in carbon dioxide -LUNGS-> Blood hight in oxygen and low in carbon dioxide
What is the digestive system?
A long tube which runs from the mouth to the anus. As food passes down it is broken into soluble foods.
Parts of digestive system?
Mouth
Salivary gland
Gullet
Liver
Stomach
Gall bladder
Bile duct
Pancreas
Small intestine
Large intestine
Rectum
Anus
What is the small intestines job?
- Chemical digestion continues and completes here.
- It is absorbed and carried away by the blood.
Facts about small intestine?
Large surface area
Thin walls
Good blood supply
Large surface area of the small intestine?
It is very long, and the inner surface is folded and covered with many finger-like projections called villi.
What is the Wall of the Villus?
The villus is one cell thick, this allows rapid absorption of materials.
What is the Blood Capillary in the Villus?
This allows the products of digestion to be carries away quickly, the blood carries amino acids.
