Rationale - what’s the underlying theory of the causes of the illness
Aims - what is it trying to do
Processes - what will happen during the treatment - how does the drug work

A

Effectiveness - does it work, for how long, is it a cure, for what % of people, how big is the benefit, how strong is the evidence
Appropriateness - does it have side effects, how long will it take, how much does it cost

Random allocation to conditions
Control group - with no treatment, placebo or an alternative treatment
