Define the deviation from social norms?
Social norms are unwritten standards of acceptable behaviour
When people break from these norms they are considered socially defiant
Therefore the people and their behaviour is considered abnormal
What is an example of a deviation from social norms?
Hearing voices
Putting the kettle on 10 times
Define the failure to function adequately?
Mentally healthy people can hold down jobs, leave the house whereas people that can’t carry out day to day task such as this will be considered abnormal - told to seek treatment

The GAF scale
What is the GAF scale?
A series of questions to classify the type and extent of an abnormality someone may have before they make a certain decision
