Q

AO1

A

-πŸ‘€ at typical b of general pop nd b that is rare/uncommon is abnormal
-therefore on distribution curve any b that is 2 or more standard deviations from the mean is statistically rare and therefore abnormal
- e.g OCD affects 2% of pop therefore abnormal as it it’s statistically uncommon

Q

AO3 weakness

A

P- does not differentiate between desirable and undesirable b when defining abnormality
E- e.g high IQ desirable nd not consider someone with high IQ as abnormal
E-however a high IQ is seen as statistically rare nd therefore abnormal by this def despite not needing treatment to return normal
L- limitation to SI although b is rare does not necessarily mean it would need to be treated as an abnormality
