Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Flashcards
Aneurysms may also occur
in areas weakened by trauma or
surgical procedures
outpouching of the wall of an artery resulting from a structural defect
in the layers of the arterial wall occur in a weakened area of a blood vessel.
Aneurysms
can occur in the area below the
diaphragm (abdominal aneurysm) or on the ascending aorta in the chest
Aortic aneurysms
occurs when a blood vessel wall is
injured. Blood leaking from the vessel collects in surrounding tissue.
False aneurysm
the vessel wall weakens and bulges. It
sometimes forms a blood-filled sac. But the vessel wall is not injured
True aneurysm
refers to an aneurysm that has a circumferential and
ballooning shape.
Fusiform aneurysm
the most common type
of intracranial aneurysm, representing 90% of cerebral aneurysms
. Saccular aneurysm
begins abruptly when a tear occurs in the inner layer
of a weakened area of your aorta.
Dissecting aneurysm
- An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) occurs when
the large blood vessel (the aorta) that supplies blood to the abdomen, pelvis and
legs becomes weakened, enlarged or balloons outward.
occurs when the wall of a blood vessel in the brain becomes weakened and bulges
or balloons out
Cerebral aneurysm
abnormal bulging
or ballooning of the part of the aorta that passes through the chest down to the diaphragm
Thoracic aortic aneurysm -
Patients with an abdominal aortic
aneurysm (AAA) may report back pain or a feeling of pressure and may have a ________
visible pulsation of the abdomen
The patient who has had an endovascular repair
must lie supine for
6Hrs
The presence of an aneurysm can be verified by
chest or abdominal
radiograph, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or computed
tomography (CT) scans
Men who have hypertension and a smoking history should undergo
ultrasound screening for AAA
