What family of virus is Hep A? What is the genetic material?
Picorna virus RNA
What family of virus is Hep B? What is the genetic material?
Hepadna virus DNA
What family of virus is Hep C? What is the genetic material?
Flavivirus RNA
What is the incubation period for Hep A?
2-6 weeks
What is the incubation period for Hep E?
3-8 weeks
What is the difference in liver enzyme changes between Hep A B and C?
All have raised ALT
Hep B has raised AST
What is the diagnostic test for Hep A?
Anti Hep A IgM antibodies
If they have IgG then they have had previous infection or the vaccine
Treatment for Hep A?
Supportive
Treatment for Hep B?
Peg IFN 2 alpha
Lamivudine suppressive therapy
If Hep B + HIV: Truvada (tenofovir and entricitabine)
What are the complications of Hep B?
HCC
Cirrhosis
Same in Hep C
What is the diagnostic test for active Hep B?
Hep B surface antigens will only be present in ACTIVE Hep B
Which Abs do you develop upon being infected with Hep B?
CORE Abs- you will only have these in active infection (IgM( or previous infection (IgG)
When do you get serum Abs in Hep B?
After first infection or after vaccination.
N.B. If it is previous infection you will also have core Abs but in vaccination you won’t have core abs.
What are the particles of Hep B virus called?
Den particles
Treatment of Hep C?
Peg IFN 2b
Ribavirin
What stages of the virus life cycle do Hep C drugs affect?
Processing
Replication
Assembly
Which drugs affect just processing of Hep C?
Drugs ending with PREvir
They are NS3 inhibitors
Which drugs affect all the stages of Hep C?
Drugs ending with Avir
They are HS5A inhibitors
Which drugs affect just the replication of Hep C?
Drugs ending with Buvir
NS5B inhibitors
Which pts get Hep D?
Can only get it as a co-infection with Hep B
Tx of Hep D?
IFN alpha/liver tranplant
which Family of virus is Hep E?
Hepeviridae
Which genotypes of Hep E affect humans?
1 + 2
Complication of Hep E?
Bell’s palsy
