Why give Vitamin E and selenimum?

A

For antioxidants.

If deficient, they can cause white muscle disease which effects the respiratory, skeletal, and cardiac muscles of foals under 1 year of age. It can be prevented if the mare is supplemented in the 3rd trimester. The foal under 4 months of age can develop EDM (equine degenerative myeloencephalopathy)
