what is human development?
physical, cognitive and psychosocial development of humans through life
what is physical development?
involves growth, changes in body + brain, senses and motor skills
what is cognitive development?
learning, attention, creativity, memory, language
what is psychosocial development?
emotions, personality and social relationships
what are the life stages?
infancy (0-2 years)
childhood (3-8 years)
adolescence (9-18 years)
adulthood (19-65 years)
older (65+ years)
what are some physical age changes?
wrinkles, bruising, grey hair, skin elasticity, balance, sight, hearing
what are some cardiovascular age changes?
narrowed arteries, lower/higher HR, blocked arteries, sinoatrial node loses 50% of cells
what are some digestive age changes?
digestion slows down, indigestion, nutrients harder to absorb, dehydration
what are some nervous system age changes?
slower reactions, lose nerve cells, mild cognitive impairment, brain cells shrink
what is the definition of memory?
the power or process of reproducing or recalling what has been learned and retained

what is grief?
response to have lost a person who’s died, intense sorrow

what is the purpose of the mental capacity act 2005 in relation to healthcare?
to protect rights, safeguard and support individuals over 16 who may lack capacity to make choices about their own care
