Q

what is the Hirschi’s control theory in social class and crime ?

A

It can explain the link between social class and crime.
Hirschi’s argues that criminal activity occurs when attachments to society is weakened.
According to Hirschi there are 4 social bands that bind people together .

The four social bands are attachment, commitment , involvement and belief.

When these social bands have weakened , crime occurs as society has less control over these people .
Hirschi states that offenders are likely to be young , lack work or education commitments , lack family attachments.
