What may there be conflict between?
- preferences of service users -> eg choice of TV programmes or music in communal areas
- the clients right to choice and protecting their personal safety -> eg a dementia sufferer living alone in their own home
- the different rights of the service user -> their right to confidentiality
- the respect for cultural or religious values -> eg Jehovah’s Witnesses do not believe in blood transfusions
Conflict between who is sadly very common?
tension and conflict between service users, and between service users and their carers is sadly very common
What could challenging behaviour be defined as?
challenging behaviour could be defined as any behaviour that puts the service user or anybody else in the setting at risk, or affects their quality of provision
What may challenging behaviour include?
this may include:
- excessive rudeness
- aggression
- self-harm
- being disruptive
Who should be trained to deal with conflict?
professional cares and other staff should be trained to deal with conflict
Where may conflict erupt?
conflict may erupt in any care setting
Who may conflict erupt between?
this could be between:
- service users and healthcare professionals
- service users and other service users
- service users and their carers
- carers and the healthcare professionals
What should be in place if you are a worker that may at times work alone?
there should be a LONE WORKERS POLICY in place

if you are a worker that may work alone there should be alone workers policy in place
What does a lone workers policy have guidance for?
guidance for dealing with any situation where you could be left vulnerable or uncomfortable
