A&P Lab #3 Flashcards
What are the four TYPES of tissues?
Epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue and nervous tissue
What is the hollow inside of an organ called?
Lumen
What is the difference between stratified and simple epithelial tissue?
Simple epithelium is one layer of cells and stratified epithelium is more than on layer of cells
What layer do you look at to name stratified tissues?
Apical layer (layer closest to the lumen or outside)
What is the structure called on the basal surface of the cell?
Basement membrane
What is the word to describe each tissue TYPE?
Epithelial tissue = covering/lining
Connective tissue = connects
Muscle tissue = contracts
Nervous tissue = communicates
What are the cells and fibers called in bone?
Cells in bone are osteocytes and the fibers are collagen fibers
What are the cells called in hyaline cartilage?
Chondrocytes
What are the cells and fibers called in dense regular connective tissue, dense irregular connective tissue, and loose connective tissue?
All of the connective tissue propers (dense regular connective tissue, dense irregular connective tissue, and loose connective tissue) contain cells called fibroblasts and collagen fibers
What are the cells called in adipose?
Adipocytes
What are the cells called in all muscle tissue?
Myocytes
What are the two cells called in nervous tissue?
The larger cells with visible projections are called neurons and the dots are neuroglia
What are the key features in skeletal muscle?
Skeletal muscle is striated, multinucleated, and contains long parallel fibers
What are the key features in smooth muscle?
Smooth muscle has no striations, is uninucleated, and the cells are spindle shaped
What are the key features in cardiac muscle?
Cardiac muscle is striated, branching, and uninucleated
