Explain the concept of the ‘global commons’ (4 marks)
- Earth’s shared resources (e.g. High seas and Atmosphere)
- No national governance but shared
- Land-mass in the global commons is Antarctica
- Tragedy of the commons (e.g. exploited beyond recovery)
Complete Figure 1C and analyse the temperature variations shown in Figures 1a, 1b and 1c. (6 marks)
P - Temperature fluctuates in both figures
E - From the lowest temperature in 1959 of -8.2 to the highest in 1989 of -1.2
D - Overall range in July temperatures is 12.2 and is 7.1 for annual temperatures
A - With anomalies removed the IQR has less variation in July temperatures of 5.7, compared to annual temperatures
L - Trend in figure 1b suggest temperatures are increasing at Faradat and over time the variation decreases
Using Figure 2 and your own knowledge, assess the extent to which this pattern is similar to the global trade in a food commidity or manufactured product you have studied. (6 marks)
