What is retrieval?
process of finding information in stored memory
What is recall?
ability to retrieve information
What is free recall?
retrieving the information out of thin air
What is cued recall?
retrieving information when provided with a cue
What is recognition?
involves identifying specific information from a set of information that is presented
What is reproductive memory?
storage of the original stimulus input and subsequent recall
What is relearning?
process of learning material that was originally learned
What is priming?
an effect of implicit memory whereby exposure to a given stimulus primes or prepares the brain to respond to a later stimulus
What is mood-dependent memory?
when learning occurs during a particular emotional state it is most easily recalled when one is again in that emotional state
What are flashbulb memories?
intense, vivid snapshots of an emotionally intense experience
What is prospective memory?
remembering to do things in the future
What is proactive interference?
happens when previously learned information interferes with the ability to recall information learned later
What is retroactive interference?
happens when newly learned information interferes with the recall of information learned previously
What is positive transfer of information?
when old information facilitates the learning of new information
What is a schema?
mental blueprint containing common aspects of some part of the world
