9.2 Flashcards
How did geology effect the accessibility of coal in the UK
The UK has lots of sedimentary rock such as chalk that is easy and cheap to dig up, making the coal underneath easy to access
Why isn’t the coal in Antarctica accessible
Its under 2.5km of thick ice
Work would take place in freezing conditions and in darkness
Its very far away from world markets
How does climate effect access to energy
Climates that are very sunny have more access to solar energy than countries with a cloudier climate. E.g. the uk can access lots of wind energy but no that much geothermic energy.
How can landscape/ relief effect access to energy
Energy reserves that are under mountainous areas with high relief are harder to access due to it being difficult and expensive to transport equipment to the reserves making it inefficient.
What factors effect energy usage around the world
Population: areas with a higher population have more people consuming energy
Development: areas that are underdeveloped dont have the technology to access to certain types of energy
What is energy poverty
People who dont have much access to energy are energy poor
