9/15 class notes Flashcards
observations of photoelectric effect
1)below a threshold frequency (v1) ie or above a threshold wavelength (lambda) no electrons ejected regardless or the intensity of the light source
2)above a threshold frequency , e are ejected regardless of intensity of the light source
3)if intensity of light os varied this effects the number of ejected e but has no effect on max KE
4)all metals show this behavior but each has its own unique threshold frequency
what was the surprise that came with photoelectric effect
if light is a wave, higher amplitude should proide more intense variations to metal atoms allowing to release e. But low frequency light does nothing regardless of intensity
is amplitude increased when electrons are ejected
yes
which light has higher frequency, red or blue
blue
Einstein’s explanation of photoelectric effect
light comes in discrete energy packets (photons)
what are photons
quantized entities
