Development Aid
Financial aid give donor country
There are two types:
- Bilateral Aid
- Multilateral Aid
Bilateral Aid
Aid delivered on a one-to-one basis between a donor and a recipient country
Multilateral Aid
Aid given by donor countries to international aid organisations such as the World Bank or Oxfam.
These groups distribute aid to what they deem to be deserving causes

Official Development Assistance
Term used by OCED to measure aid
Trade Embargos
Government or international ban that restricts trade with a particular country
Can prohibit all trade, or simply ban trade of certain items
Geopolitical Intervention
Exercise of a country’s power in order to influence course of events outside its borders

Consists of money, weapons, equipment or expertise given to a developing country to help them:
- protect their borders
- fight terrorism
- combat piracy or drugs
- people trafficking

Responsibility to Protect principle
Since 2005, instances of gov abusing rights of their people genocide, torture and imprisonment have given increasing weight to ‘Responsibility to Protect’ principle
Making it clear sovereignty of country has limits
Example of National Sovereignty intervention
Libya
What were the aims of the Libyan innervation
Make sure there was an arms embargo enforced on Gaddafi
People being attacked by gov forces were protected
Provide space and time for Libyans to decide their own fate
