8.4 Refractions Flashcards
COA Refractions
Objective vs desired refractions
Objective means no input from pt. So this is Autorefractor (AR). VS. DESIRED is manifest (MRX)- do you like 1 better or 2 better
Objective refraction means
No input from pt (its just a flat object)= AR
Subjective refraction means
Input from pt (subjects feelings of like something better)=MRX
Steps to a manifest refraction
Sph, cyl axis, cyl power, sph
Mneumonic manifest refraction steps
Sandwhich bread a top first, then avocado, then prosciutto, then sandwhich bread (SAPS sph, axis, power, sph)
Name a refraction style to try to prevent over-minusing a pt
Fogging
In fogging refraction, when do you know you have given enough plus to start
When the say two lines worse then the lowest they can read
FOGS fogging refraction mnemonic
Forever OVERMINUSED,Give Surplus (to not overminus, push plus)
Is fogging refraction monocular or binocular
Binocular
Is Duo Chrome refraction monocular or binocular
Monocular (DUO sounds like MONO)
In duo chrome, if green lands shorter than red, and it looks more clear (the short wavelength is hitting the retina), what lens needs to be added to that eye to bring the red in from behind the retina up to it
Add plus (RAMGAP)
In duo chrome, if red looks more clear and is farther back, what lens needs to be add over that eye to make the green move back to hit retina
Add minus (RAMGAP)
Purpose of binocular balance refraction
To balance accomodation- the eyes as the work together as a team
Is binocular balance refraction binocular or monocular
Binocular (in the name)
Steps to binoc balance refraction
add +0.75DS OU, see if one eye seems blurrier then the other, ADD ONE CLICK PLUS TO CLEAR EYE until they are equally blurry
