Who/what is associated with support in adolescence? (7)
Friends, family, sports, hobbies, comfort, pets
What do we look at when processing different face aspects?
Look at how brain structures change as there is focus on a particular facial feature
What difference in facial processing can we see between adults and adolescents?
Adults see all different facial features processed by same area of the brain whereas adolescents process in different areas
What is the adolescent dip?
Participants in adolescence aren’t as good at processing faces as brain networks are still becoming fine-tuned
What are 2 ways that we tend to identify ourselves with our peer groups?
The way we dress and the way we act
What is the key developmental issue in adolescence?
Finding your ‘tribe’
Why are peer relationships most important in adolescence?
Adolescents spend more time with peers than at other points in the lifespan
What may be the consequence of perceived failure in social situations in adolescence?
They may be particularly painful and have particular salience for the development of anxiety or depression
What is the consequence of peer rejection?
Decreases mood and increases anxiety
