Maturation of ones’ own hereditary environment

By physical and social environment and experience before and after birth
What is the passive child view (mechanistic)?
The environment shapes the child’s development and they are at the mercy of who raises them
What is the active child view (organismic)?
Internal psychological structures drive development and children are active contributors to their own development
What is continuous development?
Development is an additive process with gradual changes over time- children are just less able adults
What is discontinuous development?
Development is marked by a series of abrupt differences- children and adults are fundamentally different
