Trait perspective
Genetic, Personality, physical, or intellectual traits that differentiate leaders from non-leaders or effective leaders from ineffective leaders (leaders are born)
Problems with trait perspective
Slightly inaccurate as only sample already effective leaders and found many personal characteristics that seem to drive leadership effectiveness.
Early research found numerous personal qualities and characteristics, which argues that the perspective is strongly supported

- Acts as sole decision maker and discourage feedback and suggestions
- Good if employees lack expertise compared to leader and useful in high-stress and urgent situations or when decisiveness is needed

Laissez-Faire leadership style
- Provide limited instructions and limit contact with team members
- Letting people do their job (let experts do their thing)
- Low productivity due to low guidance
