Digestion
A muscular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach.
Esophagus
Waves of muscle contractions that move food through the esophagus
Peristalsis
Bean shaped organ that filters, or removes waste from blood.
Kidney
A muscular sac that holds urine until the urine is extracted.
Bladder
The main organ of the respiratory system.
Lungs
A large muscle that contracts and relaxes to move the air in and out of the lungs.
Diaphragm
Upper two chambers of the heart.
Atria
Lower two chambers of the heart.
Ventricles
A vessel that carries blood away from the heart.
Artery
A vessel that carries blood towards the heart.
Vein
A cluster of small spongy structures that filter particles from lymph.
Lymph nodes
An organ that recycles worn out red blood cells and produces and stores lymphocytes.
Spleen
Part of the brain that controls memory, language, and thought.
Cerebrum
Part of the brain that coordinates voluntary muscle movement and regulates balance and posture.
Cerebellum
Area of the brain that controls the involuntary functions and connects them to the brain to the spinal cord.
Brain stem
A chemical that is produced by an endocrine gland in one part of the organism and is carried in the bloodstream to another part of the organism.
