7th Science - Cells Vocab Flashcards
Group of different tissues working together to perform a job.
Organs
Group of similar types of cells that work together to carry out a specific job.
Tissues
The process of when cells become different cells.
Cell Differentiation
An organic compound made of chains of organic glucose.
Cellulose
The movement of substances through a cell membrane without using the cells energy.
Passive Transport
A molecule that forms when long chains of molecules called nucleculdes join together.
Nucieic Acids
The diffusion of water molecules only through a membrane.
Osmosis
The movement of molecules through a cell membrane that uses the cells energy.
Active Transport
A series of chemical reactions that convert light energy, water, and carbon dioxide into the food energy molecule called glucose and oxygen.
Photosynthesis
A membrane-bound organelle that uses light energy and makes food-a sugar called glucose-from water and carbon dioxide in a process called photosynthesis.
Chloroplasts
A series of chemical reactions that convert the energy in food molecules into a usable substance called ATP.
Cellular Respiration
A liquid part of a cell inside the cell membrane; contains salts and other molecules.
Cytoplasm
A flexible covering that protects the inside of the cell from the environment.
Cell Membrane
Part of a Eukaryotic cell that directs the cell activity and contains generic form of information called DNA.
Nucleus
A stiff structure outside the cell membrane that protects the cell from attacks from viruses and other harmful organisms.
Cell Wall
An unspecialized cell that is able to develop different types of cells.
Stem Cells
