7.5 Flashcards
What is non Disjunction?
When chromosomes don’t separate properly
Nondisjunction-M1:
Homologous chromosomes don’t separate properly
Nondisjunction-M2:
sister chromatids fail to separate
What is deletion?
When offspring have the wrong number of chromosomes
types of deletion
trisomy and monosomy
What is trisomy?
diploid but there are 3 copies of one chromosome type
What is monosomy?
diploid but there is only 1 copy of a chromosome
What is duplication?
extra genes
What is inversion?
When chromosomes have trouble pairing up for meiosis
What is Translocation?
Could be normal or could be missing genes or could have extra
What happens to a gamete when the parent cell has a deletion abnormality?
missing genes
What happens to a gamete when the parent cell has a duplication abnormality?
extra genes
What happens to a gamete when the parent cell has a inversion abnormality?
could be normal
What happens to a gamete when the parent cell has a translocation abnormality?
depends on which chromatids end up in the gametes
What is the result of the zygote when there is a deletion abnormality?
missing gene(s), only one instead of two
