Q

How much does a healthy hoof grow per month?

A

6-9 mm

May slow in the winter to about 3 mm per month

20
Q

Which artery/vein is circled

A

Palmar/plantar digits artery and vein

21
Q

What is the function of the navicular bone (distal sesamoidean bone)?

A
  • Acts as a pulley
  • Lessens the strain of DDFT as it changes direction to cross the coffin joint
  • Lowers the work of DDFT to act on distal phalanx
22
Q

Label the structures with arrows pointing to them

A
23
Q

Label the diagram of the navicular apparatus

A
24
Q

What happens if the suspensory apparatus fails?

A

Distal phalanx will begin to rotate, it will no longer be parallel to the sole of the foot, it begins to to tip forward toward the ground. The dorsal surface of the distal phalanx will begin to separate from the hoof wall as well.
