7 Flashcards
The electron transport chain helps
the transfer of electrons from NADH and FADH2 to oxygen
the four protein complexes of the electron transport chain
- complex 1- NADH dehydrogenase
- complex 2- succinate dehydrogenase
- complex 3- cytpchrome complex
- complex 4- cytochrome oxidase
what shuttles electrons from complex 1 to complex 2 and 3 and electrons from complex 3 to 4
- ubiquinone
- cytochrome c
oxidative phosphorylation
The mode of ATP synthesis that is linked to the oxidation of molecules by an electron transport chain
multiprotein complex that spans the inner mitochondrial membrane
ATP synthase
an enzyme early in glycolysis is
phosphofructokinase
ATP is known as an allosteric inhibitor of phosphofructokinase because
if excess ATP is present in the cytosol it binds to phosphofructokinase, inhibiting its action
After glycolysis, what if no oxygen is present what happens
the pyruvate remains in cytosol, where it is reduced and consumes the NADH by a series of reactions called fermentation
two types of fermentation
- lactate - when movement of muscle cells calls for more oxygen that it cant provide, lactate happens
- alcohol - occurs in yeast to make things rise
How do protein kinases function
They add phosphate groups to target proteins
