define ‘acquired brain injury’
an injury resulting from damage to the brain occuring after birth at any time during life
define ‘traumatic brain injury’
an injury that occurs when there is a sudden physical, trauma to the brain from an external force
what is aphasia?
an acquired language disorder resulting from damage to the language processing centres of the brain. Characterised by an impaired understanding and/or production of language
what is wernicke’s aphasia?
an acquired language disorder characterised by difficulty comprehending speech and producing meaningful messages. Can produce fluent sentences but the meaning is nonsensical or confusing. Caused by damage to the wernicke’s area
what is broca’s aphasia?
an acquired language disorder characterised by difficulty producing fluent speech. Their words may have meaning but are not connected in flowing sentences. Causes by damage to the broca’s area
what is a concussion?
a mild form of traumatic brain injury, resulting from an external force to the head or body that causes the brain to bounce inside the skull
