What does the air exert at right angles to the surface of any object?
Atmospheric pressure
Why is the atmospheric pressure higher when you are lower down?
The lower you are, the more atmosphere there is above you, so the higher the atmosphere pressure is.
Why does the density of the atmosphere get higher the closer you are to sea level?
This is because the weight of the air above pushes down on the air below it, compressing it - the closer to sea level you are, the more air there is above you so the more the air around you is compressed.
Why is atmospheric pressure lower at a higher elevation?
At higher elevation (altitude) the gas particles are more spread out, so they generate less pressure.
