4.5 Acceleration Flashcards
What is acceleration?
The change in velocity of an object in a certain amount of time
What is the equation for acceleration?
change in velocity/time
If an object speeds up, it must be ____________
accelerating
If an object slows down, it must be ____________
decelerating
What is constant acceleration?
When something is accelerating at a uniform speed throughout
What is an example of constant acceleration?
Objects in free fall near the Earth’s surface
What is the equation for constant acceleration?
2as = (change in velocity) squared
What can acceleration equations be used to form?
A computational model
What is a computational model?
A computer based model that can be used to predict the motion of an object. The computer does lots of calculations, and can be used to work out, e.g. the position or speed of an object after a certain amount of time
