6.7.3 Fabricating/constructing/assembling Flashcards
What is drape and name 3 things that affect it
- ability of fabric to form waves as it’s hung
- stiffness, weight, rigidity
Describe 2 features of a plain seam
:) :(
- most common seam type
- can be stitched together or pressed flat open
:) straightforward to carry out
:( overlocking/zig zag stitch needed to prevent fraying
Describe 2 features of a flat felled seam
:) :(
- overlapping seam (2 rows of stitching: adds strength, durable)
- top stitching usually diff colour
:) strong seam
:( time consuming
Describe 2 features of a french seam
:)
:(

- used on delicate fabrics e.g chiffon
:) neat finish, no raw edges
:( time consuming
Describe 2 features of a double stitched seam

- blind hemming
- invisible stitching
What does zig zag stitching do?
strengthens seam but adds bulk
What do bound seams use?
use bias binding - encases raw edges on both sides

What is invisible stitching used for?
seam repairs
involves needle entering the folded edge directly over last stitch
