What are the major sites of viral infection and disease?
• Major sites are: respiratory tract; GI tract; epithelial, mucosal, and endothelial lining of skin, mouth, and genitals; lymphoid tissue; liver and other organs; and CNS.
What are the flu-like Sx of viral infections?
• Fever, malaise, anorexia, headache, body aches are the classic flu-like symptoms that come with many viral infections. This is because viruses induce interferon and cytokines which increase body temp (fever) and make you feel worse.
What are macules?
flat colored spots
What are papules?
slightly raised from immune/inflammatory response
What are nodules?
bigger than papules
What are vesicular lesions?
blisters, contain virus. Warts are a big 1.
How can you prevent transmission of viral infections?
Have common sense.
