6.5 Portable DC equipment - 6.5 Portable DC equipment Flashcards
PKP Dry Chemical Extinguisher
BRAVO fires
No cooling capability
Sizes: 18 / 27 pounds
Ranges: 19 / 21 feet
Discharge Times: 10 / 11 seconds
Compound will foul electronic components
CO2 Extinguisher
CHARLIE fires
Size: 15 pounds
Range: 4-6 feet
Discharge Time: ~35-40 seconds
Located within 30ft of equipment with high potentials for a class “C” Fire
Keep grounded to deck to avoid shock from static electricity
AFFF Extinguisher
BRAVO fires
Size: 28lbs (2.5gal of premixed AFFF producing 16gal of foam)
Range: 10ft and decreasing
Discharge Time: 45-65 sec
Naval Firefighters Thermal Imager (NFTI)
Used to locate the seat of a fire in smoke filled and dark spaces
Operated by the Attack Team Leader
2 modes of operation: PAN-while moving, CHOP-while fighting the fire
P-100 Portable Emergency Pump
Diesel engine driven centrifugal pump
Provides 100 gpm at 83 psi
20 ft suction lift; max 39 ft when used with a portable educator
Electric Submersible Pump (ESP)
Centrifugal pump driven by a water-jacketed constant speed A/C electric motor
140gpm at 70ft, 180gpm at 50ft static head pressure
Cooled by pumped fluid and always used with a strainer
MUST wear proper electrical PPE in accordance with the NSTM 300: 450VAC
Perijet Eductor
Jet-type pump, no moving parts
Often used with an ESP or P-100 pump
Can be used with fluids with small particulate matter or that are more viscous
S-Type Eductor
Jet-type pump, no moving parts
Often used with an ESP or P-100 pump
Has a Foot Valve with a strainer to prevent flooding and clogging
Soft Patch
Used for systems of 150psi or less
Gasket material must extend 2in past damage
Not recommended for fuel or steam lines
Jubilee Patch
Used for systems with 100 psi or less
Gasket material must be large enough to overlap 2 in on all sides
Emergency Water-Activated Repair Patch (EWARP)
Used for systems with 150 psi or less and does not exceed 300 degrees
Cannot be used on fuel or potable water systems (can contaminate the system)
2 Sizes: 3in x 9ft, 4in x 15ft
Fully hardened in 30 minutes
Other patches
Box Patch: effective for holes with jagged edges
Hinged Plate Patch: designed for use over relatively small holes
Folding T-Patch: used for unevenly shaped holes
Hook Bolts: used to anchor a patch
Shore
A portable beam. Douglas Fir or Yellow Pine preferred (straight grained, cured woods)
Wedge
A block, triangular on the sides and rectangular on the end
Shole
A flat block that may be placed under the end of a shore to distribute pressure
Strongback
A bar or beam of wood or metal that is used to distribute pressure or to serve as an anchor for a patch. The strongback is often shorter than a shore
Steel Shoring materials
Model 3-5
Model 6-11
Can also be welded into place, fireproof, easier to store, less materials need, greater variety of use, prefabricated
I type Shoring
Consists of a single beam between an anchor point and a strong back (simplest and strongest type)
K type Shoring
Used if a single anchor point is not readily available
Plasma Exothermic Cutting Unit (PECU)
Used for cutting into a deck to vent a compartment due to extreme temperature from a fire that is preventing normal entry
Portable Hydraulic Access and Rescue System (PHARS)
Utilized in emergency access, personnel rescue, or fire-fighting operations involving spreading, cutting, pulling, and piercing light plate or sheet metal (may also be called jaws of life)
Powered by small, external diesel engine (JP-5 or F-76)
Portable Electric Access and Rescue System (Power Hawk)
12V rechargeable battery supply
8 foot cable from pack to tool
Tools provided: mechanical ram, cutter, spreader, Sawzall, light
