Ventilation
The introduction & movement of fresh air into a space to remove contaminated air or to control the temperature of the space or tank.

Collective Protection System (CPS)
Provides contamination-free environment using specially designed filtration equipment integrated into to the ship’s HVAC system

CPS Level One
Safe Haven
Shelter Envelope: provides protection for berthing, messing, sanitary, and battle dressing facilities for 40% of the crew
CPS Level Two
Surprise Attack Survival
Minimum Operational Envelope: expanded area of total protection (TP) coverage that includes the Level One shelter envelope and key operational functions
CPS Level Three
Maximum Operational Envelope: sufficient TP coverage of the ship for mission requirements except for flight deck and well deck operations
Electric Box Fan
115 A/C Electric fan
Moves 3200 cubic feet of air/min
Used with smoke curtains to create smoke control zones using installed ventilation or CPS
RAM Fan 2000
Water turbine actuated by Firemain or P-100 Pump which operates Fan Blades
Moves 2000 cubic feet of air/min
Must be grounded to prevent static electricity build up
Used with elephant trunks to direct contaminated air
Active Desmoking
Removing smoke & heat from the smoke control zone between the inner & outer smoke boundary prior to extinguishing the fire
Shall not be used to remove smoke & heat from the fire compartment
