6.12 CBR-N - 6.12 CBR-N Flashcards
Chemical Warfare
Used to injure, incapacitate, or kill based on local climatic conditions, method of dissemination, amount and type of agent and time lapse after contamination.
Chemical Warfare Treatment
- Three 2-PAM chloride auto-injectors
- NAPP issued to all personnel
Biological Warfare
A micro-organism which causes disease in man, plants or animals or causes the deterioration of material.
Toxins
Pathogens
Biological Warfare Treatment
Antibiotics before specific agent is identified
Nuclear Weapons Treatment
Time
Distance
Shielding
Nuclear Weapons
Detonation of a nuclear device causes a chain of events.
High altitude bursdt
Air burst
Surface burst
Sub-surface burst
Radiation Protection
Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) Limits are set in the event of continuous exposure: usually 150 rem (measure of biological damage).
Forms of radiation:
Alpha
Beta
Gamma
Neutron
M50 Joint Service General Purpose Mask
Eye and respiratory protection against airborne contaminants
Provides 24 hours of continuous face, respiratory and eye protection from radioactive particles and chemical or biological agents.
Joint Service Lightweight Integrated Suit Technology (JSLIST)
Outer shell treated to repel water and oil
Inner liner contains activated carbon for chemical protection
Service life is 120 calendar days after opening, and 45 uncontaminated wearing days
M256/M256A1 Chemical Detector Kit
Chemically treated, dye-impregnated paper. Used to identify liquid nerve and blister agents.
M8 Paper - ID’d by color changes
M9 Paper - ID’d by color changes to a shade of red (more sensitive)
Mission-Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP)
Risk of CBR-N threat is categorized into five (5) MOPP levels to enhance the survivability of a ship’s crew based on the probability of attack
MOPP Level Zero
Normal, everyday operating conditions
Fitted for and issued individual protective equipment (IPE)
Fitted and issue MCU 2/P or M50 protective masks (retain training canisters)
MOPP Level One
Set when CBR-N attack is suspected
- Equip all personnel with protective masks in carriers
- Check calibration and operationally test RADIAC’s
- Review CBR Defense Bill, verify personnel assignments
- Set Condition III and material condition YOKE
- Inventory and inspect chemical/biological defense equipment and supplies
- Conduct an operational inspection of the CPS, verify CPS certification is current
MOPP Level Two
Set when CBR-N attack is possible
- Issue personal dosimeters to all hands
- Designate primary DECON Station
- Pre-position decontamination supplies in DECON stations and repair lockers.
- Optest Countermeasure Washdown System
- Set material condition MODIFIED ZEBRA
- Ensure CPS zones are pressurized and airlocks are properly utilized
- Activate and monitor chemical and biological detection and sampling equipment (if not already activated)
MOPP Level Three
Set when CBR-N attack is probable
- Go to general quarters, Set material condition ZEBRA.
- Install new filter canisters on protective masks, maintain on person.
- Don JSLIST
- Stow medical supply items on person; initiate pyridostigmine pretreatment regimen
- Post and monitor detection equipment and materials as designated by the ship’s CBR Defense Bill
- Activate Countermeasures Washdown System intermittently to keep decks wet
- Strike below nonessential porous, absorbent and flammable material
