6.1 Digestion and Absorbtion Flashcards
Physiology
is about HOW and WHY the parts of the body Function in the way they do.
Heterotrophic Nutrition
is the mode of nutrition in which organisms depend upon other organisms for food to survive.
Holozoic Nutrition
Is a type of Heterotrophic N- that is characterized by internalization-( ingestion)
Ingestion
Food taken into the mouth for processing in the gut.
Digestion
Mechanical D- by action of the teeth and muscular walls.
Digestion 1
Chemical D- By enzymes, maily in the stomach.
Absorbtion
Soluble products of digestion are - > absorbed into the blood circulation systems.
Into the lymphatic system ->(fat droplets)
Assimilation
Products of digestion absorbed from the blood into the body cell(hairs and muscles)
Egestion
Undigested food and dead cells from the lining of the gut- together bacteria9flora)- are expelled as feaces
