1.2.Ultrastructure of Cells_Prokaryotes Flashcards
1
Q
Prokaryotes
A
means “before nucleus”
- prokaryotes don’t have a nuclei.
- instead the cell_ is comprised of single circular chromosomes in the central part of the part of the cell called the nucleoid.
2
Q
Similarities(with Eukaryotes)
A
- Both have DNA
- Both have Ribosomes
- Both have Cytoplasm
- Bothe have have Plasma membrane_ Phospholipid bi-layer.
3
Q
Features of Prokaryotes
A
- DNA Free Cytoplasm(Nucliod region)
- DNA in ring form of proteins(naked DNA)
- No membrane bound organelle.
- No mitochondria.
4
Q
Features of Prokaryotes_2
A
- Single celled organism
- 70 Ribosomes
- Reproduction through binary fission.
- No internal compartmentalization to form organelles.
5
Q
Not-membrane bound organelles
A
- Cell wall: Protects protein-based coating
- Plasma membrane: Selectively permeable, controls entry and exit of materials out of the cells.
- Pili: attach to other bacteria for DNA transfer.
6
Q
Not-membrane bound organelles
A
- Cytoplasm: contains enzymes for metabolic processes.
- Nucleoid: closed-loops of Bacterial DNA_-(Condensed Area)
- Ribosomes: Protein synthesis (Transcription and translation)
- Flagella: Whiplash- like motion causes Movement.
