Options for prevention and treatment of heartburn.
Initial management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) in pregnancy consists of lifestyle and dietary modification: Elevation of the head end of the bed, avoidance of dietary triggers.
Medical treatment: Antacids, sucralfate, H2 blockers, and PPIs.
Options for prevention and treatment of N/V.
Eat 5-6 small meals throughout day.
Bland, lukewarm, or cold foods may be better than spicy or hot foods.
Protein or carbs, esp if consumed 45 minutes before getting out of bed, may be helpful.
Take only folic acid to eliminate iron until n/v resolve.
Acupressure bands, ginger.
Options for prevention and treatment of hyperemesis gravidarum.
IV normal saline to correct dehydration.
Doxylamine succinate/pyridoxine hydrochoride (Diclegis). Start at 2 tablets (10 mg/10mg) and increase to 4 if needed.
If that fails, multidrug treatment is needed.
Options for prevention and treatment of UTIs.
Urinate frequently. Completely empty bladder. Wipe front to back. Stay hydrated. Urinate before and after sex. Cranberry juice. Cotton crotches. Change underwear and panty liner daily. Post-coital prophylaxis for those with recurrent UTIs.
