Pre = Food for good bugs like whole grains, onions, bananas, etc. Pro = The good bugs themselves: Fermented milk, kimchi, sauerkraut

What is Million Hearts?

A

A national initiative of U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with the goal of (you guessed it) prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by end of 2016 by empowering Americans to make healthy choices As of 2014: some trends are encouraging, but further reductions will be needed to meet goals by 2017

Difference between reductionist vs. holistic approach to proper eating:

A

For the reductionist “the simple is the source of the complex”. In other words to explain a complex phenomenon (like human behavior) one needs to “reduce” it to its constituent elements.

For the holist “the whole is more than the sum of the parts”. In other words human behavior has its own properties that are not explicable in terms of the properties of the elements from which it is derived

Inititatives for each branch of service for eating better

A

Navy - CHOW

AF = DINE

Army = EATS

These acronyms fit well with their services. Although I guess Navy should be FISH
