What are the five levels of resistance posed by a subject?
- Compliant
- offers no resistance - Passive resistance
- not complying or cooperative
- taking minimal physical action to prevent an officer from taking control - Active resistance
- verbal or physical actions are directed at preventing an officer from taking custody or taking control
- Ex-walking or running away, breaking the officer’s grip - Aggressive resistance
- displays intent to harm the officer, themselves, or another person - Aggravated aggressive resistance
What is low level force, and what force options are contained in that level of control?
- A level of force neither likely nor intended to cause injury

What is deadly force, and what are the examples?
Degree of force which is likely to produce death or serious bodily injury.
- deadly force can also result from a force option being improperly applied
1. Baton - strikes to head, sternum, spine, groin, kidneys
2. Low lethality shotgun - less than 5 yards
3. PIT - more than 40 mph

Officer may use reasonable force when? (5)
- To protect themselves
- To protect others
- To affect a lawful detention
- To affect a lawful arrest
- To conduct a lawful search
- If reasonable, the officer should make their intent to detain, arrest, or search the subject clear
- When practicable, officers will identify themselves as peace officers prior to using force
What are the parameters for use of deadly force?
- Protect himself or others from what is reasonably believed to be an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury
- Prevent the escape of a fleeing felon who the officer has probable cause to believe committed a violent felony and is an imminent threat to human life if escape occurs

What is intermediate force, and what qualifies as a use of intermediate force?

What is a duty to intervene?
Any officer present and observing another officer using force that is clearly beyond objectively reasonable under the circumstances shall intercede to prevent the use of excessive force
-Officers shall promptly report these observations to a supervisor
When reasonable, officers should gather information about the incident, assess the risks, assemble resources, attempt to slow momentum, and communicate and coordinate a response. What is this called?
De-escalation
-officers should use advisements, warnings, verbal persuasion, other tactics and alternatives to higher levels of force
