Homicide section lieutenant will be contacted:

- LVMPD employee or family member

- Respond to the scene (unless death appears natural)
- Confirm with patrol death is not suspicious or the result of a homicide
- Ensures CSA have been requested on all suicides, overdoses, and other deaths
- Ensure deputy coroner has been requested
- Ensures dead body incident report is complete and detailed
The homicide lieutenant will be notified on all child related deaths. Homicide will respond to child deaths resulting from
- non-accidental
- An intentional act
- blunt force trauma, head trauma, or the child may have been shaken
- Medical neglect
An in-custody death is defined as
- Under arrest
- An inmate housed at CCDC, North Valley Detention or a medical facility
- Has been contacted by officer and during the stop the death occurs (ex. vehicle or pedestrian stops, person commits suicide when officers are in close proximity or have the person contained)
