Definition?
Form of social influence where remembers of the majority group change their beliefs because of the minority influencing their decision which leads to internalisation.
What are the 3 things the minority must be?
Consistent, committed and flexible.
Describe consistency.
If the min repeat the same beliefs to the maj over time between all ppl of the min, the maj will reassess the situation and consider the min idea
Describe commitment.
Min must show dedication and make personal sacrifices
Commitment- how does the minority make personal sacrifices
Engage in extreme activities to draw attention to views, if the activities present risk it shows greater commitment and maj will pay for attention.
When the min engage in extreme activities and maj group pay more attention, what is this known as?
The argumentation principle.
What does flexibility suggest?
Too much consistency is seen as dogmatic and rigid and may stop the maj moving over to the min view.
Describe flexibility?
Min need to adapt their eve point and accept reasonable counter arguments to strike a balance between consistency+flexibility.
If the min remain C,C,F what will the maj do?
Listen to their ideas
Internalise them
Move over to min view
When more ppl start to move over to the min opinion, what is this called?
Snowball effect as the opinion begins to gain momentum until the min viewpoint is the maj.
