5C Research on Neurological Disorders Flashcards
Neurological Disorders
Neurological disorders are diseases characterised by any damage to or malfunctioning of the nervous system
Parkinson’s disease
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disease of the nervous system characterised by both motor and non-motor symptoms
Neuro degenerative disease
Epilepsy
Epilepsy isassociated with abnormal electrical activity in the brain and is catergorised by recurrent seizures
Seizures
Seizures are brief episodes of uncontrolled electrical discharging of neurons in the brain
Machine learning
Artificial intelligence that allows software to become more accurate at predicting outcomes by mimicking the way that humans learn
Supervised learning
Uses labelled data to create algorithms or equations on how to classify data or make predictions
Unsupervised learning
Uses an algorithm to identify patterns or trends within unlabelled data that have not yet been discovered
Gut brain axis
The gut-brain axis is the bidirectional connection between the gut and the brain through multiple parts of the nervous system
Gut brain axis and Parkinson’s disease
Constipation occurs in 50% of parkinson’s patients
