5.9.2.3 global climate change Flashcards
What is climate change
An increase in average global temperature which therefore disrupts/ changes climate cycles and structures.
Name causes of climate change
-generation power (generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels causes a large chunk of global emissions)
-manufacturing goods
-cutting down forests (deforestation)
-using transportation
-producing food
-powering buildings
-consuming too much.
Name effects of climate change
-more frequent and intense droughts, storms and heatwaves.
-rising sea levels
-melting glaciers
-and warming oceans
What happens to plantlife/animal life with increasing levels of climate change?
-habitat loss
-ecosystems become uninhabitable
-migration disruption
-extinction of species
-climate stressors (plant’s resilience weakened, disrupting forest structure and ecosystem services)
