5.2- DNA replication Flashcards
What is the job of helicase?
helicase unzips the DNA strands
What is the job of Primase?
Primase places RNA primers
What is the job of DNA Polymerase 3?
DNA Polymerase 3 places down corresponding rna nucleotides
What is the job of DNA Polymerase 1?
DNA Polymerase 1 replaces the rna with the corresponding dna nucleotides
What is the job of Ligase?
Ligase glues the nucleotides together
Where does dna replication occur in Eukaryotic cells?
in the nucleus
Where does dna replication occur in Prokaryotic cells?
in the cytoplasm
When does dna replication occur?
before the division of cells
Why does dna replication occur?
it occurs because we need more dna to divide cells for; growth, repair, and reproduction
How do the dna strands run?
the dna strands are antiparallel, meaning the both run in opposite directions
Why is dna semi-discontinuous?
it is semi-discontinuous because the leading strand can replicate continuously, but the lagging strand replicates in segments
