Q

How would the structure and function of a protein change if a hydrophobic amino acid was substituted for a hydrophilic one?

A

The strand would have to fold in a different way because hydrophobic molecules water hides in the middle, but hydrophilic molecules attract to water on the outside of the strand

What interactions occur in the side chains or the Tertiary Structure?

A

-Hydrophobic
-Acid & Basic
-Cysteine
-Hydrophilic

17
Q

How do hydrophobic side chains bond?

A

By clumping

18
Q

How are Acidic and Basic side chains bonded together

A

(Ionic Bond)- Different charges so they’re attracted to eachother

19
Q

How do Cysteine side chains bond?

A

Covalent Bonds (create a disulfide bridge)

20
Q

How do Hydrophilic side chains bond?

A

Hydrogen bonds with self or water molecules
