What are the 3 continuums to classify skills?
.Environmental influence
(Closed to Open)
.Difficulty
(Basic to Complex)
.Organisation level
(Low to High)
What are closed skills?
Skills not affected by the environment because they are predictable.
Very few variables outside of performers control
E.g. javelin throw
What are open skills?
The opposite of closed skills.
Heavily affected by unpredictable and changeable environment.
Execution of skill is influenced by conditions of play, teammates and opponents.
E.g. rugby tackle
What are basic skills?
Very few sub routines and require relatively low level of attention to complete
E.g. running 400m
What are complex skills?
The opposite of basic skills. Made up of lots of sub routines and require great concentration because they are difficult
E.g. twisting somersault in gymnastics
What are low organisation skills?
Skills which can be split into sub routines easily and each sub routine can be practiced separately
E.g. swimming (front crawl)
What are high organisation skills?
Skills seen as whole actions which must be practiced in their entirety
E.g. golf swing
