Theory, Practice, and research in counselor supervision. Question prepared for the CAU faculty by Dr. Dykeman.
1. Be prepared to describe Bernard’s Discrimination Model in detail.
2. Be prepared to describe the supervisor behaviors in any of the cells of Bernard’s 3X3 Matrix of Roles and Focus.
3. Be prepared to critique the Discrimination Model with:
a. Two-person psychology theory,
b.Ken Hardy’s Multicultural Relational Perspective,
c.School counselors may use Luke and Bernard’s Extension of the Discrimination of Model to School Counseling as the critique
Sample question:
You are hired to teach “Introduction to Supervision” to CMHC students at the local university. Given this scenario, answer the following questions:
1. What two theories of supervision would you choose to emphasize and why?
2. A student asks for a multicultural critique of the Discrimination Model, what would you say?
3. A student asks for an example of the Counselor X Personalization Cell in the Discrimination Model. What would you say?
4. A student asks for an example of the Teacher X Conceptualization Cell in the Discrimination Model. What would you say?
