5. Sensation and Perception Part 2 Flashcards
What is loudness?
distinguished by the amplitutde of vibration
What is the auditory cortex?
processing of sound stimuli that is located in the temporal lobe
What is stereophonic hearing?
three-dimensional hearing that allows us to locate sound
What is the vestibular complex comprised of?
semicircular canals, utricle, saccule, and ampullae
What is the purpose of the vestibular complex?
detects rotational accelerations of head for equilibrium and balance
What is the cornea?
clear portion of the eye that acts as a lens refracting incoming light
What is the sclera?
white of the eye that directly borders the cornea
What is the choroid?
layer that contains darkly pigmented cells absorbing excess light within the eye
What is the retina?
surface upon which light is focused at the back of the eye
Where are the rods and cones located?
retina
What is the iris?
membrane located at the back of the anterior chamber that contains the muscle that regulates diameter of pupil
What fluid is located in the anterior and posterior chamber of the eye?
aqueous humor
What is the pupil?
opening in the iris
Where is the lens of the eye located?
posterior chamber
What is the purpose of the lens of the eye?
fine-tunes angle of incoming light allowing beams ot focus on the retina
