Define enteral nutrition
Use of a tube to feed a diet due to the mouth area not working correctly into the GI system
Define parenteral nutrition
Lab diet made into liquid form to administer via iV to bypass the GI system
When would you need to use assisted feeding
When the animal is unable to eat as they normally would or it is unable to absorb nutrition from its GI tract
What is re-feeding syndrome
Occurs when malnourished patient begins to receive norishment again
Severe change in intake and electrolyte increases cause heart to work harder and can cause dysrhythmias
There is a drop in Na, K and Mg
