5 Flashcards
Human Movement System: Nervous system
Basic unit neuron (dendrite, axon, cell body) CNS (brain & spinal column) PNS (everything coming out of spinal column & mechanoreceptionsβ¦)
Mechanorecptors
Muscle Spindle (think stretch), Golgi Tendon Organ (think tension & foam rolling), Joint Receptors
Three stages of learning
Cognitive (learning), associative (beginning to understand), Autonomous (learned skill, no thought)
Example sentence: He has reached the autonomous stage of learning where he can perform the task effortlessly.
How many bones are in the skeletal system?
206 bones
80 in axial skeleton, 126 in appendicular skeleton
What is the basic unit of the skeletal system?
Osteon
Osteoblasts build up, osteoclasts claw down
What is the longest bone in the human body?
Femur
Example: The femur is the longest bone in the human body.
What is the function of ligaments?
Connect bone to bone
Example: ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament)
What is the function of tendons?
Connect muscle to bone
Example: Achilles tendon
What is the basic unit of the muscular system?
Sarcomere
Myofibrils contain actin & myosin
Where is glucose stored in the muscle?
Glycogen
Example: Glucose is stored as glycogen in the muscle.
What is a motor unit?
Single neuron cell and associated muscle fibers it innervates
Example: Motor unit controls muscle movement.
What is the Sliding Filament Theory?
Muscle contractions involving actin & myosin sliding past one another
Shortening the muscle during a concentric muscle contraction.
What are capillaries?
Smallest blood vessels for exchange of elements between blood and tissues
Example: Capillaries are where oxygen and nutrients are exchanged in the body.
